Magic Sands Beach Park is 1 block from Kanewa Place.  The beach is called Magic Sands because sometimes there is sand and other times there is none as the ocean carries it in and out.  It is best known for boogie boarding although there is also great swimming and snorkeling.  Watch the waves – they can get rough.
Kahalu'u Beach Park Kahalu’u Beach Park, one mile from Kanewa Place is one of the best protected snorkeling beach on the Kona Coast. It has a shallow reef with easy entry, many varieties of fish and lots of honus (green sea turtles). You can rent snorkel gear and get local grinds (food) right on the beach.
Kona Country Club is only 5 minutes away!!  It has two eighteen hole championship golf courses. The makai (ocean) course hosts views of the coastline and lava trimmed holes. The mauka (mountain) course stands high above Keauhou with beautiful panoramic views.
Keauhou Bay right down the road from Kanewa Place is Keauhou Bay where you can kayak, swim, and board charter boats and zodiacs.  A small park features volleyball courts, an outrigger canoe club and lots of picnic areas.
Kailua Bay Kailua Bay The heart of the old village of Kailua offers many restaurants, a wide variety of shopping for local items and handcrafted products, historical sites including a museum and old churches, and the pier where boats depart and local folks gather to swim and play.
Holualoa is a quaint artists' town where locals share their crafts in the many old shops nestled along the roadside. Stroll the small town itself, which hosts many local galleries, shops and coffee tasting spots. Drive through scenic Holualoa and view the coffee farms.
Kealakekua Bay Kealakekua Bay is a 30-minute drive south, with beautiful views along the whole way. It has been designated an underwater state park to protect its myriad multi-hued fish. Shoals of intensely colorful fish can always be found, and the bay is a favorite haunt for spinner porpoises who delight visitors with their aquabatics. Choice snorkeling, scuba diving, and kayaking are always available. Kayak across the bay to the Captain Cook Monument where you can swim and snorkel along the pristine reef. You'll need to use the kayak we offer or rent the kayaks from one of the shops along the way. There are no kayak rentals at the bay itself.
Cooks Monument Captain Cook's Monument lies on the north side of Kealakekua Bay and marks the approximate spot where he died. The monument can be reached by sea, and also by a steep trail from the top of Napo'opo'o road. The adventurous will be rewarded by the beauty of the place, and by the excellent snorkeling.
Place of Refuge Pu'u Honua 'O Honaunau (City of Refuge), was a "Place of Refuge" to provide political and criminal asylum. This is where violators of the traditional kapu (taboo) system could come to seek refuge from death. If they reached the City of Refuge they would be purified by priests and could then go back to live safely in their communities. The sacred precinct is preserved as a National Historical Park. This beautiful site on a peninsula of black lava has the preserved and restored remains of a royal palace, a reconstructed temple and three heiaus, houses, a fish pond, a beach, and a canoe landing. Enjoy a picnic at the beach - beautiful for watching the breaking waves and exploring the tide pools, but too rocky for swimming.
Painted Church The Painted Church. Painted Church St. Benedict at Honaunau, constructed in 1875, is the oldest Catholic church on the island. The small wooden church has brilliantly hued murals depicting biblical scenes on the interior walls which were painted by Father John Velge between 1899 and 1904.

Ho'okena Beach
A bit further but so worth it. Ho’okena is a beautiful beach with swaying palm trees, picnic tables, and a large sandy beach with both shady and sunny areas. It is In south Kona, a five mile windy road off the beaten path.
Waipio Valley Waipio Valley  is just past the town of Honoka’a and is a sight to behold. You can see the Waipio alley from the overlook.  Take a picnic lunch and gaze upon the mountains and the ocean.  You can also venture down into the valley via foot (lots of stamina required), a guided tour, or with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Great hiking, surfing and lots of fun wait for you below.
Volcanos National Park Volcanos National Park is a most unique and awesome National Park. The park is a 2 hour drive south  Kailua Kona. It's a great day trip and well worth the drive. You can drive down the Chain of Craters road in the evening and watch the lava flow or spew, depending on Pele’s mood. The Visitor’s Center has a film, park rangers to talk to and lots of displays. Drive around Crater Rim Road and see various spectacular sights.
And, while you are here, you may want to take a driving tour of the entire island enjoying such places as Pololu, Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls, Black Sand Beach (Punalu'u), and many more.
